Gabe, I tried the method you mentioned but received a incompatibility in my cpu features even though both hosts have exactly the same CPU architecture. I think EVC change the way ESX displays the CPU features and therefore my vmotion from one cluster to the other didn't work :(

Vmotioning to the new cluster with enabled setting does not (alway's?) work.
I standardize on also virtualizing my virtual center server, and came to the conclusion that vmotioning the vc-server (in a fresh environment) from a evc disabled host to a cluster with an evc enabled host was not permitted. (VMotion gave an error during the anlysing fase, that the cpu capabilities where differen't).
Eventualy worked around it by enabling evc on the cluster, and keeping one host out of the cluster, running the vc-server.
then shut down the vc-server, and deregistred it on the old server. logging into an evc enabled host, registerred it and then started up the vc-server again on this host.

just you know ;)

Anyone know if this works on the Virtualization Hardware Appliances (v1624 range) from 360is.com?

Any hints/tips much appreciated.

[...] While waiting for VMware and Intel to change their mind, savvy and well-respected virtualization professionals don’t mind tricking non-production ESX hosts with some CPU masking stunts (see here, here, here and here). [...]

Hi,
There is no list that I know of. And I think it is quite hard to detect before VMotioning an application. For the most important apps in your environment, you could check with the maker of the software, see if the programmers follow the rules of KB 1005673.

Does a list exist anywhere??

Thank you, Tom
